National IT Professionals Day

The third Tuesday of September is the day where we celebrate the 'computer nerds' that help us all stay connected!

The third Tuesday of September - which is tomorrow, September 21 - is National IT Professionals Day! As an IT company ourselves, you didn't think we could forget about celebrating this day, did you?? How did this day come about you ask? Well, let's find out together.

What is National IT Professionals Day?

First, we need to talk about what an IT Professional is. IT stands for Information Technology - technology that involves the development, maintenance, and use of computer systems, software, and networks for the processing and distribution of data. So who are those IT professionals? They are the people that deal with information technology - the IT support team, network engineers, system administrators, computer programmers, and other experts that keep the business chugging along every single day. Hopefully, you can now picture who these people are in your own office. Even though IT professionals have been around for decades, they only got their own day in 2015, when the IT management software company SolarWinds created it.

How do you observe National IT Professionals Day?

Most people would say to observe this day by thanking the underappreciated technology wizards that are working in your office right now! Maybe get them a coffee or even buy them lunch! While we really love those nice gestures, we mainly want it to be a day that people learn about all of the benefits of Managed IT and how important it is in this modern-day and age.

What IT Professionals want you to know

Outsourcing your IT to a Managed Service Provider is actually so important nowadays. Even though there are a lot of benefits from hiring an MSP, the most important one is that it is more secure. We don't want to offend you and say MSPs know more than you buuut the facts are the facts. MSP's focus solely on IT so they know what they are doing. Your IT team or IT person might be doing their best - it just may not be THE best. Technology is changing every day and while that means really cool things are happening, it is also kind of scary. Hackers are getting more sophisticated with every minute that passes - but, there are also technology experts that are creating security policies every one of those minutes that can help combat these hacking experts. So you are probably thinking, why can't our IT team just put those in place? Well, they could, but they probably don't know how to. MSPs are trained on knowing how to implement different kinds of security policies. Summit Technology even offers cyber insurance to our customers since typical general liability insurance doesn't cover cyber events such as data breaches, ransomware, business email compromise, etc. Yeah, pretty unfortunate, but I won't get into that right now. The point of the matter is that this day should be a reminder for companies to pay more attention to their security.
